English

Habitat fragmentation and selectingappropriate thresholds in species distribution models are critical challenges in conservation planning. This study aimed to evaluate the spatial structure of the wild goat (Capra aegagrus) habitat in Tandoureh National Park and to assess the sensitivity of landscape metrics to various suitability thresholds. To this end, a habitat suitability map was generated using the Maximum Entropy (MaxEnt) algorithm and 45 presence points recorded in 2025. Subsequently, by employing the landscape suitability approach and combining three suitability thresholds (180, 200, and 220) with three minimum patch sizes (10, 30, and 50 ha), nine analytical scenarios were generated. Results indicated that distance to rivers (38.3% contribution; 16.4% importance), vegetation type (19.8% contribution; 9.6% importance), and elevation (11.3% contribution; 24.1% importance) played the most significant roles in explaining species distribution. Increasing the suitability threshold from 180 to 220 led to a significantly more aggregated spatial structure. The Number of Patches (NP) decreased from 39 patches at a threshold of 180 and minimum patch size of 10 ha to 5 patches at a threshold of 220. Normalized sensitivity analysis revealed that NP was the most responsive metric to threshold changes, with coefficients below –2 in both the 180–200 and 200–220 ranges, whereas AI and COHESION remained close to zero. increasing the suitability threshold primarily reduced the number of patches and concentrated habitat in central–southern core areas of the park rather than altering overall landscape cohesion. Thus, decision-making based on a range of thresholds can enhance the reliability of conservation planning.
